About the Artist
NYC-based award-winning jazz trumpeter, composer, arranger, producer, vocalist, and educator, Danny Jonokuchi is the recipient of the 2020 ASCAP Foundation Louis Armstrong Award and winner of the Count Basie Great American Swing Contest. Vibraphonist Stefon Harris noted that Danny ”understood the feel of the music—the importance and the value of the spiritual energy that’s embodied in swing.”
Danny has arranged for Lady Gaga, The Duke Ellington Legacy, The Ulysses Owens Jr. Big Band, The Birdland Big Band,Peter Bernstein, The Dick Oatts Sextet, and more.
Lumen Prize Gold Award Winner and Jerome Foundation finalist Nitcha Tothong is a Bangkok-born, New York-based interdisciplinary artist and designer. Her work investigates narratives and storytelling, sensory experience, and emotional expression through art and technology, using various mediums such as time-based work, prints, physical installation, extended reality, and custom electronics. Her artwork has been exhibited extensively; recent exhibitions include A.I.R Gallery, New York; Westbeth Gallery, New York; Macy Art Gallery, New York; SXSW, Austin; IndieCade East at Museum of Moving Image, New York; LSC Women in STEAM Week, the Liberty Science Center, New Jersey; and International Symposium on Wearable Computers (ISWC). She is a former resident of Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and Babycastles.
Dr. Kelly Sutherland is an associate professor at the University of Oregon focusing on animal-fluid interactions in the open ocean. Her research has brought attention to the central, yet underappreciated, roles that gelatinous animals play in marine ecosystems. She is dedicated to collaborating across disciplines, mentoring the next generation of scientists and communicating research findings to broader audiences through collaborations with journalists and artists. Sutherland completed her PhD work in the MIT-WHOI Joint Program in Oceanography with Larry Madin and did a Postdoc with John Dabiri at Caltech. She has been at the University of Oregon and the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology since 2012. In 2016 she was awarded an early career Sloan Research Fellowship in Ocean Sciences.
Marie Lloyd Paspe is a Filipina-American dance/vocal performer, choreographer, director, educator, and writer. Paspe is a performer with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company since 2018, Bessie-awarded for contributions to BTJ/AZ’s "Deep Blue Sea", the 2022 A4 Jadin Wong Fellow, and a 2023 Gallim Resident Artist.
