Roxie Fricton is a textile artist whose practice emerges from the foothills of Appalachia, where she was born and raised in Dawsonville, Georgia. She first encountered weaving by chance while completing her Bachelor of Science in Sociology and Textiles at the University of North Georgia—an unexpected discovery that became a lifelong pursuit.
Grounded in the history of Appalachian overshot and coverlet traditions, Fricton’s work reinterprets weaving drafts as both archive and language. She collects, decodes, and rearranges fragments of historic patterns—often unsigned, partial, and carried through generations—as a way to honor the anonymous labor of women while inserting her own contemporary voice into this lineage.
