Julie Hensley is an Appalachian writer and core faculty member of the Bluegrass Writers Studio at Eastern Kentucky University, where she teaches both poetry and fiction. She is the author of several books of poetry and fiction, including Viable, Landfall: A Ring of Stories, Five Oaks, and the forthcoming Bent Cedar Mountain. She has been awarded literary fellowships from Jentel, Yaddo, Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences, Hypatia-in-the-Woods, I-Park Arts, Sheepscott Arts, Wildacres, and the Tyrone Guthrie Center. She was recently named the South Arts Literary Fellow for the state of Kentucky. Artist Fee: $1,500 - 3,000
Availability: August-November 2026; January-May 2027 (Note: I am normally unavailable in June and July due to residency requirements of the MFA program in which I teach.)
