Artist Statement
We seek support to bring Aisha Mae (Charleston Poet Laureate), Glenis Redmond (Greenville Poet Laureate Emerita), and Crystal Wilkinson (Kentucky Poet Laureate Emerita) to the 2026 Griot & Grey Owl Black Southern Writers Conference in Durham, NC. Over three consecutive days, they will lead performances, writing workshops, and a Gullah–Appalachia roundtable exploring the cultural and geographical connections and differences that shape their writing.
